We're working hard to ensure the residents of our valley have access to an adequate supply of affordable rental and for sale housing.
Dear Friend,
Now more than ever, it is key that our local business leaders and citizens lead the charge and help keep the momentum moving forward on increasing housing options, including affordable housing, in the valley.
The MWVHC is working at the epicenter of the housing crisis. Your support will impact the level of advocacy achieved, in order to more quickly attack the housing problem, and better support our economy and the community at large.
The availability of housing is a significant obstacle to having a strong and stable economy in the Mount Washington Valley. We know lack of affordable housing affects all aspects of our daily lives. We hear regularly that there are struggles with access to:
- Medical and vital services
- Educating our children
- Community safety and fire services
- Recreational services and activities
- Childcare services
- Seniors wanting to downsize and continue to live in the valley
- Trades people/development/home improvement/skilled laborers
Showing your support through annual membership ensures we can worth together to continue...
- Building understanding and consensus around the valley’s housing shortage
- By 2025 Carroll County needs 336 Rental Units and 804 Ownership Units (North Country Council, Regional Housing Needs Assessment, January, 2023)
- Collaborate with local, state and national leaders to advance housing focused initiatives
- Partner with planning boards to develop friendly housing development ordinances (limiting obstacles currently in land use rules)
- Host events/community forums/ round tables/ education series that generate new ideas and inspire action.
- Build connections across the valley and facilitate partnerships with housing experts and housing stakeholders.
Becoming a member of the housing coalition means you are part of a growing advocacy base that extends across the Valley and the State of New Hampshire. With membership support, we may continue to cultivate a sustainable economy and vibrant community through affordable housing solutions, while remaining mindful of each community's interests.
